The range of studies offered by the Faculty distinguishes itself from comparable programs offered at other Austrian universities (Wien, Linz, Klagenfurt, Innsbruck). Graz University of Technology allows - besides the common study progam for Computer Science - to deepen basic education in three areas:
Electronics and Communication Technology (Telematics),
Knowledge Management and Economy (Software Development-Economy)
Mathematical Foundations (Technical Mathematics, study branch Information Processing)
The graduates of the different study programs of Computer Science at Graz University of Technology are nationally and internationally in demand as highly skilled and trained experts. The bachelor's degree (the first academic degree) can be awarded already after three years. The institutes of the Faculty of Computer Science have in the past produced a number of outstanding personalities who can now be found in leading positions in both business and industry, from computer science to finance and insurance companies.
The Faculty provides solid knowledge as a foundation that does not become obsolete too quickly, as is the case with many of "latest fashion" topics. But the Faculty also emphasizes a systematic development of many different applications. The various application areas blend increasingly and strongly determine our daily life. Thus, computer specialists bear a significant responsibility wherever they are in the position to make decisions, as their contributions heavily influence our society, its economy and environment. The Faculty not only draws the students' attention to that very fact but also provides them with professional skills necessary to take on this challenge.
The Faculty of Computer Science is the first faculty of the Graz University of Technology checking all theses as to plagiarism.
